Your Qurbani Questions Answered

At Human Appeal, we understand that giving your Qurbani is both a spiritual obligation and a meaningful act of compassion. To help you make an informed and confident decision, we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions about Qurbani.

Why Do We Perform Qurbani?

Qurbani is performed in honor of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his unwavering obedience to Allah. When he prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS), Allah replaced him with a ram. This powerful act of faith is remembered and honored through Qurbani each year.

When Is Qurbani Performed?

Qurbani must be performed between the 10th and 14th of Dhul Hijjah. It should be done after the Eid prayer and completed before sunset on the 14th day.

How Much Qurbani Do I Give?

At least one-third of the meat must be given to those who are poor or vulnerable. The remaining two-thirds can be shared between family and friends. When you donate through Human Appeal, your Qurbani goes directly to those most in need.

Which Animals Are Eligible for Qurbani?

Acceptable animals include:

  • Goats and sheep that are at least one year old
  • Cows that are at least two years old
  • Camels that are at least five years old
  • All animals must be healthy and free of defects, whether male or female.
